Can Honey Help Cure BV?
Is Honey an Effective BV Treatment?
Honey isn’t often considered as a treatment for BV but a few people have asked me this question so I thought that I would share my thoughts on it.
First, I should start by saying that, historically, people have used honey for hundreds (if not thousands) of years to treat a huge variety of ailments but only recently have the antibiotic properties of honey been chemically investigated and explained. After much much scientific research, scientists discovered that honey contains several infection fighting compounds contains compounds including H2O2 methylglyoxal(MGO), and defensin-1.
It’s no wonder then that many women have reported that the use of honey has helped them conquer their BV. In one case, a 49 year old woman who had been suffering from BV for 5 years and unable to find relief reported that after starting a treatment consisting of apple cidar vinegar and honey ingested orally together with a tablespoon of coconut oil. She also used the coconut oil as a personal lubricant during intercourse with her husband. After a couple of days using this treatment she found that the fishy smell was completely gone.
Another woman from New York also reported success in using honey as part of her BV treatment regimen. In her case, she douched each day with a litre of distilled water and a tablespoon of baking soda. Additionally, she drank an eight ounce bottle of water with a teaspoon of honey, 1/4 teaspoon of making soda and a tablespoon of lemon juice. She followed this treatment plan for two months and found that her BV was completely gone. Thereafter, she told me that she maintained the treatment a couple times per week thereafter just to make sure that it didn’t return.
What I’ve noticed from talking to these women and also conducting my own research into BV treatment is that no one appears to have claimed that honey used by itself is a cures for BV. Rather, because of its gentle antibacterial infection fighting properties it’s an excellent compliment to the other remedies out there and something that would be well worth incorporating into your own personal treatment plan. If you are interested in giving it a try, I would recommend that you consider spending a little more on medical grade manuka honey which can be purchased easily online at Amazon and other major web retailers.Google+
