Probiotics and Bacterial Vaginosis

Numerous studies have shown that the use of probiotics is an effective home remedy for Bacterial Vaginosis.   However, it is important that you choose the right type of probiotic, namely a supplement which contains Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14 within the right quantity.

Scientific analysis has shown that some people responded well to probiotics taken as an oral supplement while others responded better to the Lactobacilli being inserted vaginally.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 as well as Lactobacillus fermentum RC-14 have both proved extremely suitable for these types of home remedy treatments for bacterial vaginosis.

In fact, one study concluded: “The ingestion of the GR-1/RC-14 probiotic therapy resulted within the vaginal flora becoming restored to regular inside 28 days in 82% in 1 group of patients.”

And this was just in the  women taking the probiotics orally!

For most women, taking a supplement with the probiotics mentioned above for about a month (sometimes in conjunction with a course of antibiotics) will clear up the symptoms of BV.  After that, the dosage can be cut in half during the next month to ensure that the bacterial vaginosis does not return.   The key to avoiding the recurrence of symptoms is to phase the probiotic treatment out slowly to ensure that the condition is cleared up completely.  Analysis has shown that these two probiotics can stay within the vagina for up to 19 days following the conclusion of your course of treatment.

In the event you do not wish to go the antibiotic route, then I would recommend that you take a vaginal supplement of the GR-1/RC-14 probiotic mix for three days followed by oral tablets.   This has been proven to be a highly effective treatment for bacterial vaginosis.

In addition to supplements, regular consumption of yogurt rich in probiotics can make a huge difference as well.  You can read more about the best yogurts for BV here.

In summary, probiotics have been shown to be effective, especially when taken in combination with other natural remedies.    Of course, the temptation for many women once their symptoms have subsided is to forget about their BV.  But as many of us have learned, the wretched condition often comes back with a vengeance! By complimenting your probiotic treatment with other natural cures and simple dietary adjustments, you can make to help regulate your vagina’s pH and eliminate your bacterial vaginosis permanently.

Thank you for all the useful information you have on your website. I cured my BV by inserting Fem dophilus probiotics for approx. 3 days. One of the three days I inserted probiotics twice, morning and night. I opened up the capsule and poured the probiotic power into an applicator that came with metro gel. It worked!!!! My OB/GYN confirmed it during my check-up. No more antibiotics for me!!! As a preventive measure, I’m going to insert probiotics a few days before and immediately after my cycle. My OB/GYN also stated that using probiotics is a great thing to do. He also mentioned douching with a small amount of vinegar, but not often, only when I have symptoms of BV.

Again, that you for the great information you share.

    Best Regards,
